Description
The Flash solar bench, designed by Iwona Żaczek, is an innovative piece of street furniture that combines eco-friendliness with modern technological amenities. Crafted to cater to the evolving needs of smart cities, the bench features a photovoltaic panel which powers various integrated facilities such as an inductive charger and multiple USB charging ports, making it a user-friendly hub for residents and visitors alike to stay connected while enjoying the outdoors.
Constructed in two distinct metal types—carbon steel (S235Jr) and stainless steel (AISI 304), both galvanized and powder coated for durability—the Flash solar bench promises longevity and resilience against environmental elements. Its dimensions (180 cm in width, 110 cm in height, and 109 cm in depth) and weight (ranging between 200 kg and 228 kg depending on the wood type used) make it a robust and stable unit suitable for public spaces.
Users can choose from various seating materials including soft wood, hardwood of European origin, hard wood with an oil finish, premium hardwood, and ecoplank. These materials ensure comfort and add to the aesthetic appeal of the bench. The seating options are complemented by the optional customization of having a logo milled directly into the wood, personalizing the space or advertising local businesses or initiatives.
Technological enhancements include optional configurations such as the integration of Bluetooth speakers or speakers with built-in memory, enhancing user experience by allowing music and announcements to be played. For connectivity purposes, the bench can be equipped with a Wi-Fi hotspot (2.4 GHz; 3G, 4G) to cater to the digital needs of its users, though a SIM card is not included.
Energy storage is managed through a choice of gel batteries (36 Ah) or more efficient lithium batteries (40 Ah), which store power generated by the 160 W photovoltaic panel. The bench is designed to operate efficiently across a wide range of temperatures, from -20°C to 60°C, ensuring it functions optimally in various climates.
The installation of the bench is straightforward, requiring it to be bolted to a foundation, which secures it firmly in place, making it both safe and theft-resistant. The Flash solar bench not only offers a restful spot with its comfortable backrest but also serves as a unilateral charging station and connectivity point, proving itself as a pivotal component of urban street furniture. Its design and functionalities make it an exemplary model of how modern technology can be seamlessly integrated into everyday urban fixtures to enhance communal spaces and support sustainable city living.
